More Tobacco-Free Regulations on Campuses Enforced

Recently new anti-smoking legislation takes effect for campuses in Lenoir, Greene and Jones countries.

For example, Lenoir Community College student Barbara Crumbaker decided to kick the smoking habit long time ago before the college’s tobacco-free policy was enforced.

Crumbaker, 40 years old, declared that she smoked her lively cigarettes for at least 20 years before giving up her bad habit. As a participant of LCC’s student government confederation, Crumbaker has worked to teach the college’s students and informed them about the new tobacco-free policy, which was enforced recently on all of LCC’s campuses in Lenoir, Greene and Jones regions. Crumbaker confessed: “I quit smoking in October. It took me about two weeks to absolutely stop smoking.”

Crumbaker gathered approximately 500 cessation equipments for teenagers who also have a big wish to stop using any tobacco product. The gathered equipments are available only at the student union building.

The new tobacco-free policy was approved even starting with January by an absolute agreement vote from the LCC Board of Trustees. LCC is not the first college which recently approved such a regulation. For example, Wayne Community College enforced a similar law, which became more efficient on August 1, 2009.

Shirley Dove, the LCC vice president of academics declared that all the cigarette regulations on campuses will be empowered this week, as well as the signs which will show where students can and can not smoke their cigarette. And the LCC’s summer session will start on May 19th.

“Actually the new law is going to attack students hard when they first come back. There even was one teenager who wrote unpleasant things about the new anti-smoking regulation on a personal journal,” Dove added.

In spite of some preliminary opposition to the new legislation, Crumbaker said that most of her mate college classmates have accepted the idea of banning smoking on their college campus. So, the LCC posted a 1-800 quit-smoking hotline on its home website especially for students and college employers.

And in case anyone will violate the new policy the first time will give a verbal warning for violator. But if the violator continue his/her no acceptance of the new law, then he/she will be expulsion.
